Currently, SSE’s CWT protection screen is mainly based on the code of GB 7588－2003 and EN81-1:1998+A3， where it is mandatory.

5.6.1 The travelling area of the counterweight or the balancing weight shall be guarded by means of a rigid screen extending from a position of not more than 0,30 m above the lift pit floor to a position at least 2,50 m.
The width shall be at least equal to that of the counterweight ˜or balancing weight™ plus 0,10 m on each side.
If this partition is perforate, EN 294, sub-clause 4.5.1 has to be respected.

Table 4 (attached in an email) gives safety distances sr for regular openings for person of 14 years of age and above.
The dimensions of openings e correspond to the side of a square opening, the diameter of a round opening and the narrowest dimension of a slot opening.
